In honor of “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever,” our Sunday morning study through the book of Revelation, here is this week’s end-times prophecy:

earthquakeIn the last days, the Bible says there will be great earthquakes in diverse places (Luke 21: 11; Isaiah 24: 19-20; Revelation 6: 12-14; Revelation 16: 18-20). We are reminded of this prophecy every time the ground begins to move. And for those of us who live in Southern California, the earth seems to move all the time.

Earthquakes are just a part of life here, like the beach, the mountains, freeways and In-N-Out burger. But these earthquakes that we experience now are just reminders of the promises in the Bible that Jesus is coming back, and right before He comes, there are going to be earthquakes all over the globe. So every earthquake we experience means that we are that much closer to the day when Jesus comes back. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Membership Re-Affirmation

We are in the middle of our membership reaffirmation process. This is a part of our new by-laws. The purpose of this is to make sure we’re all on the same page and pulling the same direction. Thanks to all of you who filled out the card and turned it in. We appreciate your faithfulness to the Lord and to His church. If you haven’t filled out a card yet, that’s okay. You will be getting a call from one of the elders, so that we can get to know you and make sure we’re all on the same page. By the way, thanks to all of you who aren’t yet members at Lakeside, for filling out a card indicating your interest in membership. We will be contacting you very soon too.

Easter is Nearly Here

Easter is just two weeks away, and we want you to make plans to celebrate Easter with family and friends here at Lakeside Church. Easter is on April 20th this year, and it will be our first anniversary as Lakeside. What ever you do, don’t miss that.

Care Groups

Right after Easter, we will be kicking off our care groups ministry at Lakeside. We will give you the information on that this Sunday. And, of course, this Sunday we continue in our study of the book of Revelation. We’ll be talking about the beginning of the end from Revelation 15.

I’ll see you Sunday, here at Lakeside Church.

Dove returningIn honor of “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever,” our Sunday morning study through the book of Revelation, here is this week’s end-times prophecy:

In the last days, the Bible says, the fact that God once flooded the earth (Genesis 6) would be denied (2 Peter 3: 5-6). There is a mass of fossil evidence to prove this fact, yet it is flatly ignored by most of the scientific world. The fact that the scientific world discounts the Biblical account of the flood is not surprising, it is exactly what the Bible says would happen in the last days. Listen to the words of the Apostle Peter, written 2000 years ago:

vs 5: “But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.”

vs 6: “By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.”

Why would people ignore such clear truth? The answer is found in Revelation 12: 9–

“Satan, who deceives the whole world.” The closer we get to the Lord’s return, the more we see people ignoring the truth of the Bible, and believing theories make no sense at all. And we see this happening more and more each day, just as the Bible said it would. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Take advantage of our regular mid-week ministries that happen here at Lakeside, Youth, AWANA, Women’s and Men’s Bible studies, and take some time to pray for those who lead these ministries. I don’t know what we would do without these faithful people.

Paul said, “Encourage one another, especially as you see the day approaching.” I want to encourage you to check out the flowers in the front of the church and up by the sign. They are beautiful, and we give a big Lakeside salute to all who helped plant them. It seems that Spring is in the air here at Lakeside Church. I can’t wait to see you Sunday.

The Holy Bible and the Crown of ThornsYou know, I usually start out these messages by saying, “In honor of The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever, our Sunday morning study through the book of Revelation, here is this week’s end-times prophecy. But today, in honor of Christmas, I want to talk about the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled at His first coming. Here is a list of just 10 of those prophecies.

  1. Jesus will come from the line of Abraham. Prophecy: Genesis 12: 3. Fulfilled: Matthew 1: 1.
  2. Jesus’ mother will be a virgin. Prophecy: Isaiah 7: 14. Fulfilled: Matthew 1:18-25.
  3. Jesus will be a descendant of Isaac and Jacob. Prophecy: Genesis 17: 19, Numbers 24: 17. Fulfilled: Matthew 1: 2.
  4. Jesus will be born in the town Bethlehem. Prophecy: Micah 5: 2. Fulfilled: Luke 2: 1-7.
  5. Jesus will be called out of Egypt. Prophecy: Hosea 11: 1. Fulfilled: Matthew 2: 13-15.
  6. Jesus will be a member of the tribe of Judah. Prophecy: Genesis 49: 10. Fulfilled: Luke 3: 33.
  7. Jesus will enter the temple. This is important because the temple was destroyed in A.D. 70 and was never rebuilt. Prophecy: Malachi 3: 1. Fulfilled: Luke 2: 25-27.
  8. Jesus will be from the lineage of King David. Prophecy: Jeremiah 23: 5. Fulfilled: Matthew 1: 6.
  9. Jesus’ birth will be accompanied with great suffering and sorrow. Prophecy: Jeremiah 31: 15 Fulfilled: Matthew 2: 16.
  10. Jesus will live a perfect life, die by crucifixion, resurrect from death, ascend into heaven, and sit at the right hand of God. Prophecies: Psalm 22: 16; Psalm 16: 10; Isaiah 53: 10-11; Psalm 68: 18; Psalm 110: 1. Fulfilled: I Peter 2: 21-22; Luke 23: 33; Acts 2: 25-32; Acts 1: 9; Hebrews 1: 3.

Looking at just these ten prophecies tells us that Jesus Christ’s coming to the earth was no accident. This was a planned and coordinated event. He came as that baby in a manger to be the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world, yours and mine.

So as you celebrate Christmas with family and friends, I would encourage you to stop and thank God for sending the greatest Christmas gift of all, His one of a kind Son, to be our Lord, Savior and King.

Merry Christmas to you from all of us here at Lakeside Church. I see you this Sunday as we celebrate the greatest gift in the history of ever, Jesus Christ our Lord.

The last book of the Bible - Revelations

In honor of “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever,” our Sunday morning study through the book of Revelation, here is this week’s end-times prophecy:

The Bible says that in the last days, Ancient Petra (Sela the rock city) in Jordan, would exist and become a refuge for the Jewish people fleeing during the Tribulation (Isaiah 16: 1-4; Matthew 24: 16; Revelation 12: 6, 14). In 1994, Jordan and Israel signed a peace treaty making Petra a refuge for fleeing Jews. All of this is happening right before our very eyes, just as the Bible said it would. What an honor to be the generation that watches as history lines up with Bible prophesies. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Well, Thanksgiving is over and the Christmas season is in full swing. As of the day of this posting, we have only 24 shopping days left until Christmas. But with the holidays come opportunities for ministry. We want everyone who calls Lakeside Church home to give bags of ice melt to friends, neighbors and co-workers, as a gift from Lakeside Church. And, while you’re doing that, invite them to church, the Christmas banquet, or Christmas Eve service. Giving away ice melt is a great opportunity for ministry. You can pick up ice melt this week at church.

Another opportunity is the Blue Jay Christmas Parade this Saturday, December 7. That means this Friday evening at 6:00 pm we will load the truck with ice melt and decorate the truck for the parade. Saturday, come out to the parade and help give away ice melt to the community. These are great ways to reach out and impact our community. So come be a part of the team.

On Sunday, December 8, we will have our annual Christmas Banquet. Thanks for all of you who have responded to the e-vite. If you haven’t responded yet, you still have time. Do it right now. You don’t want to miss out on celebrating our Savior’s birth with your church family.

Don’t forget all the regular stuff at Lakeside Church. We have Monday night youth ministry and the Princess Academy, and Wednesday night AWANA, Women’s Ministry and Men’s Bible study. There is a lot going on as we close out 2013. Let’s do our best to finish strong.

Violence concept. In honor of “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever”, our Sunday morning study through the book of Revelation, here is this week’s end-times prophecy.

The Bible says that, in the last days, the earth would be filled with violence (Luke 17:26; Genesis 6:11-13). In the United States alone, violent crime has increased nearly 500% since 1960. Fifty years ago, abortion (the violent murder of an unborn child) was illegal in most countries.

Today, abortion is legal in most countries and 46 million children are aborted worldwide each year. Just in the past few years, we have seen mass shootings at Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, The Colorado Movie Theater and the Washington D.C. Naval Base. This kind of violence, which was unheard of 50 years ago, is quite common today, just as the Bible says. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Church-family Bulb-Planting Day this Sunday!

It is awesome when people take on projects around the church and get things done. One project we did last year was planting bulbs in our front parking lot planter area. Mandy Bates headed that up and it was a huge success. We had all of those bulbs bloom into beautiful flowers just in time for Easter Sunday. I bring that up because Mandy would like your help in planting more bulbs in that planter this year. So, on Sunday, October 27th, we will have a  bulb planting day right after church. Lunch will be provided and we will all be able to take part in making the Lord’s house a bit more beautiful.
Don’t forget all the regular stuff happening at Lakeside Church– Monday night Youth Ministry, Wednesday night AWANA and Women’s Bible study, and Thursday night men’s leadership Bible study.

You're Invited to the End of the World - Apocalypse Coming

In honor of “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever,” our Sunday morning study through the book of Revelation, here is this week’s end-times prophecy:

The Bible says that in the last days, the world would be linked together and people would be able to see, in real time, the events that are taking place (Revelation 11: 9-10; 17: 8). The Bible says that the entire world will see certain events unfold.

The invention of the television and the deployment of global satellite networks during the 20th century allowed news to travel all over the world, but you had to have access to a television set in order to see what was happening. Now, with the invention of smart phones, people all over the world can see news events unfold as they happen. Remember that in the apostle John’s day, news traveled at the speed of horseback. But today, news travels at the speed of light for the first time ever–allowing us to see things all over the world as they are happening, just as the Bible says. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Elder Installation

Last Sunday’s Elder Installation service was so encouraging to me, and an historic moment in the history of our church. Thank you for being a part of the process all the way through, from the writing and approving of the new by-laws, to the process of selecting elders, to the affirming of the new elders, and finally laying hands on these men in the installation service.

I really believe that this step of obedience to God puts us in a place where God can bless us, and because of that, the best days for Lakeside Church are still in the future. And now, with this phase of our church structure completed, the work of building the kingdom of Jesus Christ begins in earnest here in Lake Arrowhead and the surrounding mountain communities.

As these men assume their God-given role as servant-leaders in our church, I’m asking you to assume you’re God-given role in the church too. I’m asking you to pray for these men faithfully and regularly. I think about the instruction Paul gave Timothy in I Timothy 2: 1-4:

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.

And as you pray for these men, know that they are praying for you faithfully and regularly too.

Ministry at Lakeside

Don’t forget all the regular stuff at Lakeside Church. Monday night youth ministry, Wednesday night AWANA, and Thursday night men’s leadership Bible study. This coming Wednesday night at AWANA is a special Sports night, where we dress up in our favorite sports uniform. So bust out your jersey and get here any way you can. The fun starts at 6:15 pm.

God is doing great things here at Lakeside Church, and we all get to be a part of it. What could be better than that?

Man in the suit with long nose. Concept of liar. Politician. In honor of “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever,” our Sunday morning study through the book of Revelation, here is this week’s end-times prophecy:

The Bible says that in the last days, false Bible teachers would bring in heresies, have many followers, and cause others to reject God’s Word (2 Peter 2: 1-3). It is very common today to find people who reject the Bible out of hand because they have heard it misrepresented by a false teacher.

False Prophets Predicted

The Bible also says these false prophets would be money hungry, smooth talkers (2 Peter 2: 3). A growing number of TV evangelists epitomize this. They twist the Scriptures and use misleading words, to make money. In fact, today, some so called television ministries are so blatant in their efforts to make money, that Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa has launched a congressional investigation into possible abuses of the tax exempt status of six of the most extravagant and well known TV preachers. All of this is happening, just as the Bible said. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Elder Installation

The Bible says it is sweet when brothers dwell together in unity. That was certainly the case last Sunday at our church business meeting. We, as a church, voted unanimously to affirm all four of our elder candidates. In fact, there was only one abstention, and that was one elder who didn’t want to vote for himself. Thanks to all of you who stayed and participated in the vote.

We will install these four men as elders at Lakeside Church this Sunday. This will be a sweet and historic time for our church. Please be here to show your support for these men that God has called to lead and shepherd and serve at Lakeside.

Final Lake Baptism of 2013

After church we will have our last lake baptism of the year at Tavern Bay. Baptism is a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ. We have several people, who want to be baptized in the lake, and we want to do that before the weather, and the water gets too cold (Okay, I want to do it before it gets too cold).

Missing LinkIn honor of “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever,” our Sunday morning study through the book of Revelation, here is this week’s end-times prophecy.  The Bible says in the last days the people will want peace, and they will want it more than almost anything else. I Thessalonians 5 says:

  1. Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.
  2. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
  3. While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.

Never has there been such a concerted, global effort to bring about peace at any cost as there is today. And the desire for peace and safety will only become more intense as we get closer to His return, just like the Bible says. Not a sermon, just a thought.

September is getting busy at Lakeside Church

On Monday our youth ministry kicked off their small groups with a room full of students. On Wednesday night, AWANA started up, and we had Cubbies and Sparkies and parents all over the place.  It’s fun to see people back a church during the week. We give a big Lakeside Salute to all the youth and children’s workers who give so much to make these programs happen.

Busy Season at Lakeside

This Sunday we have a lake baptism at Tavern Bay. We’ll all head over to the lake after church and enjoy the baptism service there. Next Sunday, September 22, is our church family meeting to get to know our four elder candidates, and ask them questions. Then on Sunday, September 29th, we will have a business meeting right after church to affirm the elder candidates. All of that will culminate in an installation service on Sunday, October 6, for our new elders. And then we’re on to Thanksgiving and Christmas and 2014.

These are important days at Lakeside. I hope you have a sense of the importance of what we’re doing, and will commit to being a part of everything that is going on.
